Limited liability companies (LLCs) are an excellent way for business owners and investors to protect their personal assets. Like a corporation, when properly formed and maintained, an LLC offers protection of the owners’ (known as “members”) personal assets from liabilities caused by the business. However, LLCs are generally easier to maintain than corporations. While starting a business or buying rental real estate is exciting, it is critically important to protect one’s personal assets from unnecessary exposure. There may also be tax benefits; consult your tax advisor to determine if these tax benefits are available to you.
