Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Every state requires legal entities like LLCs and corporations to have a designated registered agent. Lucent Law offers registered agent services in Washington state, with other states coming soon.
Yes, you can. However, the experienced business lawyers at Lucent Law have found that many people do a poor job of being their own registered agent. First, many small business owners use their home address as their registered office. This is a violation of the law, which requires the registered office to be staffed during normal business hours to allow service of process. Second, all too often people serving as their own registered agents fail to file their company’s renewal on time, resulting in late fees or even administrative dissolution. We created our EssentialAgent services to overcome these and other shortcomings of being your own registered agent at a cost that’s affordable for even the smallest of small businesses.
Yes! Unlike other registered agent services, which charge $100 or more to process your company’s renewal on top of their base fees for simply serving as your registered agent, Lucent Law’s EssentialAgent service includes processing your annual renewal. The fee owing to the Washington Secretary of State (currently $60) is not included. We will send you an annual request to update your company’s information through our secure, user-friendly online portal. Once you’ve done that, we’ll handle preparing and filing the annual renewal with the Secretary of State, ensuring it gets done right, and on-time, everytime.
Very well, thank you! As mentioned in the prior FAQ, we include renewal service in our fee – it’s an add-on for every other registered agent service we’ve found. We will also review your company information each year prior to your annual renewal and notify you if we see any errors or potential problems – only a law firm can offer this kind of legal review. We also provide Annual Resolutions to satisfy your company’s annual meeting requirement, if applicable. We’ll keep you up-to-date with expert commentary regarding any changes to the law that might affect your company. If you need legal services, as an EssentialAgent client we’ll give you priority scheduling with our staff of business lawyers and paralegals. And, we provide you with an online portal to access these services and for company document storage, creating a one-stop place for your corporate information and compliance.
If you form your new company with Lucent Law, it’s all taken care of – the first year of EssentialAgent service is included and you’re signed up automatically.
If you have an existing company, it’s simple to switch. Click one of the “Sign Up” buttons on this page. There’s no charge until your company’s next annual renewal, meaning you’ll get up to a year for free. You’ll fill out our quick, easy online form, and that’s it! We’ll file the form with the Secretary of State to change your company’s registered agent designation to Lucent Law. We’ll pay any fees that may be charged by the state to make this change.
The Lucent Law Difference
When it comes to registered agent services, no one compares to Lucent Law’s EssentialLaw service. Our annual fee is equal to or less than other commercial registered agents, but we include other services – like renewal service – that they charge extra for. That means you get more service for less with EssentialAgent.
Since we are a law firm, we can also provide services that the other commercial registered agents are not allowed to. For example, we will let you know if your company appears to be headed for legal issues based on your annual renewal information, we will prepare Annual Resolutions for your company to keep you in compliance, and, if you do need legal services, we offer priority scheduling with our staff of experienced business lawyers and paralegals to get you the help you need right away. Only a law firm can offer these services.
Speaking of other law firms – many will be your company’s registered agent, but they are not prepared to offer the convenience of our online portal, the prioritized online scheduling with business lawyers and paralegals, or the full suite of EssentialAgent services at the low annual fee Lucent Law offers.
Give EssentialAgent a try for your company and find out how great it is to get more service for less money. There’s no charge until your next annual renewal, and we’ll pay any fee owing to the Secretary of State for the switch.
No up-front cost – it’s free until your next annual renewal
